Muddy Creek Wildlife Area – Shutts Property

Area: 156 Acres
Hiking Difficulty: C
Donated by the Red Cedar Chapter of Pheasants Forever in 1995, the land contains a variety of vegetation including old cropland, open wetland, and lowland forests. Prior to this donation, the Muddy Creek Wildlife Area had been farmland. The bedrock is composed of glacial outwash and the flat nature of the landscape does not allow water to runoff quickly.
Birds of Interest: Savannah Sparrow
• This wildlife area is currently transitioning from farmland to prairie and features several different vegetation types as a result, including old cropland, open wetland, and lowland forests
